Sycan Development Corp. Breaks Ground on New Full-Service Hotel

SPRINGFIELD, OR- March 15, 2007- Sycan Development Corporation broke ground on Wednesday morning for Lane County’s first new full-service hotel in more than a quarter century.  The Springfield Holiday Inn will feature 153 deluxe guestrooms, 4,300 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting space, and a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining.  Expected date of completion is May of 2008.

More than 30 attendees gathered in conference room at Courtyard by Marriott, another InnSight managed hotel which sits adjacent to the site of the new hotel in Springfield.
Among those present included: CVALCO President and CEO Kari Westlund, Springfield City Manager Gino Grimaldi, Springfield City Councilman John Woodrow and numerous other community leaders and city officials. 

Richard Boyles, President of Sycan Development, said, “In some respects, the story of this hotel began with the demolition of the Doubletree/Clarion Hotel”.  Since the full-service hotel was replaced by retail shopping, Springfield has been without a full-service hotel and also without much meeting space.  Boyles continued to say, “When the Clarion was torn down; I vowed to be a part of the effort to build modern meeting space in Springfield.  The construction of the Holiday Inn is a down payment on that promise. The new hotel is not an answer to Springfield’s desire to build a large conference center, but it will be the place to meet in our metro area for small to mid-size groups.”   

The groundbreaking celebration concluded at the site where Richard Boyles and InnSight HMG Executive Vice-President Pat McShane each turned shovels of dirt to commence construction.  CVALCO President Kari Westlund said “The addition of a full-service hotel gives us a critical new tool to use in gaining convention and meeting business for the area. We will begin to sell the Holiday Inn immediately for 2008 and look forward to celebrating the grand opening. We appreciate Sycan Development's investment in the future of our community."
