MEDFORD’S HOTEL MARKET HEATS UP
Medford, Oregon — April 8, 2005 – Oregon-based hotel builder Sycan Development has plans to construct two new hotels in the Medford/Central Point area within the next two years.

The developer will construct a 90-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott adjacent to its new Courtyard, opening this summer on Airport Road. TownePlace Suites will offer mid-priced, extended-stay rooms with all the conveniences of home, and is projected to open in the fall of 2006.

Sycan is also working on an 81-room Holiday Inn Express adjacent to its Fairfield Inn & Suites in Central Point. The addition of this economically priced, commuter hotel will more than double the number of hotel rooms available in Central Point when it opens in June 2006.

Sycan President Richard Boyles says the developer had an opportunity to partner with property owners in the Medford area. “This has nearly become standard operating procedure for us,” he says. “They provide the land, we provide our expertise in building hotels, and together we provide high quality lodging and jobs for the community.”

Oregon-based InnSight Hotel Management Group will manage the day-to-day operations of the new TownePlace and Holiday Inn Express, as well as continuing to manage the Fairfield and Courtyard. InnSight’s Executive VP Patrick McShane says the close proximity of the hotels is not a concern. “Three hotels we manage in Springfield are within a block of one another, and all three continue to perform above the market,” he says. “We know how to make those situations work.”
